The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine partnered with BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital to redevelop existing space and facilitate the expanded presence of the MD program at the site.

As part of the renovations, a state-of-the-art UBC/PHSA video conferencing system with two large 85” LCD display monitors, a lectern with user-friendly touch screen control systems, a PC for presentations, laptop connections, a document camera and a Blu-ray DVD player were installed. New seating, carpeting, window treatments and air conditioning were also installed. The room seats up to 78.

A key success factor for this project is the efficient and effective use of the refreshed space. For busy times, access to the lecture room will be prioritized according to the Academic Space Protocol, an agreement between the Ministry of Health Services, the Faculty of Medicine, and all Health Authorities.

The UBC Faculty of Medicine’s centralized booking system ‘Resource Scheduler’ will be used to book the room. Reservations for the room can be made through the UBC Faculty of Medicine (FoM) room booking team at roombooking.fom@ubc.ca, by submitting a Room Request form available on the FoM website at https://facilities.med.ubc.ca/room-booking/. Replies to booking requests will be sent by e-mail within 1-2 business days.

Event organizers and users of the room are invited to attend one of the users training sessions being offered to get familiar with the new technology in the room. Training sessions are being offered on a weekly basis in August (August 15, 22 & 29 from 1-2pm and 2:30-3:30 pm) and on a monthly basis from September onwards (3rd Wednesday of the month from 1:30-2:30 pm).
